How accurate are our trip plans?
AI trip plans get things wrong: places that closed years ago, restaurants that never existed, three sights an hour apart squeezed into one. So every week we check the plans we made the week before, stop by stop, and publish what we found here, misses included.
No figures yet.
Our first weekly check runs on Oct 10, 2026, covering the plans made in the seven days before. The results appear here automatically. We won't show a number until we have measured one.
What we changed
The changes we make because of a miss will be listed here, with their dates.
How we check
Which plans. Every Saturday we take the trips made on voyAIage in the previous seven days (not copies of other trips), up to 40 of them, trips with dates first. We check each plan as it stands when we look, including any changes the traveller made.
Real. A place passes if it's in one of our verified city guides, if Google Maps already confirmed it for us, or if we find it on Google Maps this week under the same name within 50 km of the city and it isn't marked closed. A place we can't find under that name counts as a miss, even if it might exist under another name: we'd rather under-claim. Walks and “explore the old town” aren't single places, so they aren't counted.
Open. For trips with dates, the place's listed hours on that weekday must cover the planned start (15 minutes early is fine) and the first hour of the visit. Restaurants have no planned time, so they must be open for at least an hour of usual breakfast, lunch or dinner hours.
Timing. The gap between one activity ending and the next starting must be at least the fastest the trip could be made (the straight-line distance plus 30%, walked up to 1.5 km, else at 30 km/h door to door) and at least the transit time the plan itself states, with 10 minutes' grace.
Budget and rain. A day misses the budget check only when its activities, meals and transport come to more than 20% over the plan's own daily budget, the same tolerance our trip check uses. An outdoor plan misses when 5 mm of rain or more is forecast for that day; we can only say that for trip days inside the 7-day forecast.
Unknown is not a pass. Each figure is the share of what we could check, and its coverage says how much that was. Real places and opening hours are reported as two separate figures, never blended into one, because far fewer places can be checked for hours.
What we keep. Counts, reasons and the names of places Google confirmed exist. No trip links, dates or anything about who made the trip, and nothing from Google beyond a business's public name. The weekly figures are kept indefinitely as our track record; they hold no personal data.
